Our Whitening Options

In-Office & Take-Home Whitening

We offer both in-office and take-home whitening for the convenience of our patients at Riverwalk Dental Care. In-office whitening is done by Dr. David Nill, and allows you to whiten your teeth by up to 5-10 shades in a quick, hour-long appointment. It’s a great option for anyone who wants fast results.

Take-home whitening is a bit different. You’ll get a set of custom whitening trays built to fit around your teeth, and then Dr. Nill will give you instructions on how to use them, as well as a peroxide-based whitening product. Then, you’ll be able to get professional results at home, without spending time in the dentist’s chair. Take-home whitening is very convenient and also offers more gradual results over a few weeks, which some patients prefer.

What to Expect

The In-Office Whitening Process

To begin the in-office whitening process, Dr. Nill will clean and polish your teeth to remove plaque, tartar, and food particles. This improves the effectiveness of your treatment. Next, he will apply a protective liquid to your gums to ensure they are not irritated by the whitener, and he will use retractors to keep your lips and cheeks away from your teeth.

Then, Dr. Nill will apply a powerful peroxide-based whitener to your teeth. He will leave it in place for a few minutes, and use a UV-based light to activate it to enhance its effectiveness. Then, he’ll rinse away the whitener. This process may be repeated several times until your teeth reach the desired level of brightness.

What to Expect

The Take-Home Whitening Process

Take-home whitening is a great alternative to in-office whitening. To get started, you’ll come to our office so that Dr. Nill can take molds of your teeth. Dr. Nill will work with a dental lab to build a set of reusable whitening trays based on these molds.

Once your whitening trays are done, you’ll come back to our office to pick them up, and Dr. Nill will also give you a set of whitening products to use, as well as instructions on how to whiten your teeth at home.

Then, all you have to do is follow your instructions! You’ll whiten your teeth for about an hour a day for a few weeks, and when your treatment is complete, your smile will be bright and beautiful once again.

The Benefits of Teeth Whitening

The most obvious benefit of teeth whitening is that it helps you feel better about your appearance. Stained and yellowed teeth may cause embarrassment or even lead you to hide your teeth when you smile, eat, or laugh. Restoring your smile lets you feel more confident about how you look.

Teeth whitening also can make you look younger, since teeth staining and yellowing may cause you to look older than you really are. Beyond this, it’s an affordable and completely non-invasive treatment, so teeth whitening is often recommended to people who are on a tight budget or who are just getting started with cosmetic dentistry.
